Weekly Update #9

May 28, 2020, 15:57 PM by Jay Winborn
The ninth weekly update from Executive Director Jay Winborn
Good Afternoon NCHA,

As our country begins to reopen businesses, I hope that our cutting industry will return to normal as quickly as possible. Last week we announced that the NCHA World Standings and Award Programs will be resuming June 3. I know that this sparked a lot of discussion regarding the areas that still remain in isolation.

I want to reassure our members that this decision was not made in haste. Our staff has worked diligently with the Affiliates and Show Secretaries committee members, as well as local affiliates and secretaries from each region, to ensure this decision was made in the best interest of our members.

Based on the requests and insistence from our affiliates and secretaries, it was clear that in order to maintain our grassroots competitors we needed to reopen our standings and awards programs.  The timing of the announcement and timeline of the reinstatement were crafted purposefully to allow our membership the time to make decisions for their future competition plans.

I understand that although many parts of the country are reopening, there are still areas that remain under strict government guidelines, both in the United States and abroad. With that said, we need to continue to move this association forward. The continuation and success of our industry have a significant impact on all of the parties involved.

For some, the sport of cutting is a hobby. It is how they like to spend their weekends and a way to unwind from the workplace. For others, this is their livelihood. They make their money on training horses or producing shows. Even the small businesses like saddle makers, show photographers, and trailer dealers can suffer from our industry remaining at a standstill.

As I have shared in the past weeks, my sentiments remain the same. I ask that we continue to pray for those that remain affected by this pandemic and remember to follow the guidelines and stay safe.  I look forward to seeing each of you back in the show pen soon.

Best to you,

Jay Winborn

NCHA Executive Director
