Sheen shines in Classic Challenge Amateur Semi-Finals

Stephanie Sheen, San Angelo, Tex., won the Semi-Finals of the Rios of Mercedes NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur with 219 points on Wednesday, July 24. Sheen was showing Metallic Alex, by Metallic Cat. Taylor Worley, Newkirk, Okla., was second with 217 points on Blitzkat, by Metallic Cat, and Trey Rogillio was third with 216.5 points aboard Hughes Your Daddy, by Thomas E Hughes.

Stephanie Sheen, the NCHA earner of $217,250, has shown Metallic Alex in seven limited age event finals this year, including last week, when she placed sixth in the NCHA Classic Challenge Non-Pro Limited Finals. The pair won the 2019 Cattlemen’s Derby 5/6 Amateur Finals, the Bonanza 5/6 Non-Pro Limited , and the Abilene Spectacular 5/6 Non-Pro Limited.

Metallic Alex LTE $94,610 was shown as a Breeders Invitational 4-year-old Open finalist by Tag Rice, and most recently as a 2019 Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Open finalist with Casey Green. The 6-year-old gelding has served Sheen well in 5/6 Amateur and Non-Pro limited age event competition, where they have collected checks in 17 divisions of five major events.

Taylor Worley, the NCHA earner of $30,195, from Newkirk, Okla., and Blitzkat claimed the reserve championship of the 2018 NCHA Classic Challenge Amateur and placed sixth in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur Finals. This year, the pair won the Breeders Invitational 5/6 Classic Amateur and they were also reserve champions of the Ike Hamilton Futurity 5/6 Classic Amateur.

Blitzkat LTE $89,210 was shown by Tommy Marvin as a Semi-Finalist in the 2016 NCHA Open Futurity and the 2017 NCHA Derby, and is a half-brother to TRS Travelin Badger LTE $206,397, bred by Tejon Ranch and trained and shown as a 4-year-old by Tommy Marvin.

Trey Rogillio, Ethel, La., the NCHA earner of $54,176, was a 2018 NCHA Derby Amateur and Amateur Unlimited finalist riding Hughes Your Daddy LTE $15,718. Earlier this year, Rogillio showed the 5-year-old mare to place fourth in the NCHA Super Stakes Classic Amateur Finals, and also showed her as a $35,000 Non-Pro Finalist in the NCHA Western Nationals, where her breeder and trainer Brett Davis showed her in the Open Finals.

Semi-finalists with a score of 212 points or more advanced to the finals, which will be held on Thursday, July 25.
