Established in 2022, the Julie Hansma Non-Pro Sportsmanship Award recognizes an active NCHA Non-Pro rider who exhibits a high level of horsemanship both in and out of the show pen, unwavering support for peers, trusted counsel to others, a high degree of integrity, and leadership that represents the true spirit of the Non-Pro rider in the sport of cutting.
Chapman has long been a respected competitor in the cutting horse community, known for her sportsmanship and commitment to excellence. As an accomplished rider in NCHA competition, she has compiled significant career earnings in the Non-Pro division and has achieved notable success in major events, including earning over $690,000 in lifetime earnings through competitive performance in NCHA events.
In addition to her competitive achievements, Chapman’s consistent professionalism, respect for peers, and dedication to the sport make her a standout choice for the Julie Hansma Award.
All active NCHA Non-Pro riders in good standing were eligible for nomination, with candidates submitted through written letters or online nomination forms. Members of the selection committee are ineligible to be nominated or to submit nominees. The final recipient was chosen by the NCHA Non-Pro Committee, which evaluated candidates based on the award’s criteria.
Chapman was honored during the NCHA Futurity, where she received the award and had her name added to the Julie Hansma Non-Pro Sportsmanship Award Plaque displayed at the NCHA office.
The NCHA congratulates Dawn Chapman on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for exemplifying the character, integrity, and sportsmanship that define the best of Non-Pro competition.
