FORT WORTH - With a heavy heart, Rocking P Ranch would like to share that Spots Hot, 2001 Sorrel Stallion, was humanely euthanized on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, and is now spending time in the greenest pasture of them all. As he is laid to rest, Rocking P Ranch reflects on all that “Spot” has accomplished.

Spots Hot (Chula Dual x Sweet Shorty Lena) quickly became known after claiming the title of 2004 NCHA Open Futurity Champion and became a 2004 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity Finalist (4th). “Spot” would then go on to earn over half a million dollars ($527,682) in lifetime earnings. With his superior athleticism, he could toy with and trap a cow like no other, making him a force to be reckoned with in the show pen

Moving forward, he placed his stamp on the performance horse industry as a sire. With just shy of seven million, eight hundred thousand dollars in progeny earnings, he sired household names such as, Second Spot (Spots Hot x Reycy Moon - LTE $449,607), Hottish (Spots Hot x Stylish Play Lena - LTE $301,843), and Cinca Im Hot (Spots Hot x Cinca De Maya - LTE $265,969). Among his offspring are not only a NCHA Open Futurity Champion, but a NCHA Open Reserve Champion and multiple major aged event finalists.

In 2015, Bobby Patton, owner of Rocking P Ranch, purchased a two-year-old mare, Cinca Im Hot (Spots Hot x Cinca De Maya). After watching her develop during her three-year-old year, Patton fell in love with the way she worked. His excitement for what he saw in this mare would lead him to be highly interested in her sire, Spots Hot, who would be selling during the 2016 NCHA Futurity Western Bloodstock Sale. In December of 2016, when the gavel fell, the future of Spots Hot was sealed as Rocking P Ranch would become the new owner of this exceptional stallion.

Mr. Patton holds a great deal of admiration for this stallion saying, “We will continue to carry on with ‘Spots’ legacy. Between offering frozen semen and through breeding Cinca Im Hot, this bloodline will be around for years to come. Through our yearlings, weanlings, and foals in utero, his name will continue to be heard.”

Spots Hot put a young boy from Oklahoma on the map. “Spot” and Wesley Galyean (Wes) became the dream team during their era. Wes has many fond memories of his time with Spots Hot. Wes has stated how this horse was a great blessing to him and truly launched his show career as a rider. “We had an incredible bond that went further than the show pen,” Wes fondly remembers, “I could take his bridle off and the horse would follow me around the ranch.” Wes says “God blessed me with this one. So, today I want to celebrate him for all he has ever done.”

In closing, Bobby Patton says, “Rest in peace, my friend.”

Rocking P Ranch will continue offering Spots Hot semen through ICSI breeding contracts at Brazos Valley Stallion Station located in Stephenville, Texas.
