5/6 Int. Non-Pro Finals
Tara Stark claims 5/6 Non-Pro Intermediate championship
Tara Stark, Willow Park, Tex., made her return to Will Rogers Coliseum count, after a more than 15-year hiatus from cutting. Showing Lizzatallic, by Metallic Cat, Stark scored a 222-point win, as the last rider in the NCHA Derby 5/6 Non-Pro Intermediate Finals, on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.
Scotty Rice, Weatherford, Tex., earned the reserve championship with 221 points riding Parke That Kat, by Kit Kat Sugar, while Kelle Chartier placed third with 216 points aboard Smooth Dual Kick, by Smooth As A Cat.
Tara Stark, the NCHA earner of $147,394, was 1987 NCHA Super Stakes Open reserve champion riding the Doc’s Oak daughter Oak Mist LTE $95,836, who she also showed as an Open finalist in the 1987 NCHA Derby. Earlier this year, Stark showed 6-year-old Lizzatallic LTE $42,445 to place fifth in The Non-Pro Plus 5/6 Non-Pro finals. Bred by Tim Drummond, Pawhuska, Okla., Lizzatallic was an NCHA Futurity Open semi-finalist with Adan Banuelos, and placed as a finalist with him in five major 4-year-old events.
Scotty Rice, the NCHA earner of $489,001, is a many-times NCHA Futurity, Super Stakes, and Derby Non-Pro finalist. Most recently, he placed fifth in the 2018 NCHA Derby riding Times Be Tuff LTE $80,313, by Woody Be Tuff. Bred by Kelly Schaar, Goliad, Tex., 6-year-old Parke That Kat LTE $5,393, was shown by Scotty’s wife, Caitlin, as a 2018 NCHA Non-Pro Derby semi-finalist.
Kelle Chartier, the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $558,363, earned her single biggest payout as reserve champion of the 2013 NCHA Non-Pro Futurity on Thankyamuch LTE $73,089, by Wilds My Thing. Kelle and her husband, Randy, who is also an NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame inductee, purchased Smooth Dual Kick LTE $37,386 from her breeder, GCH Land & Cattle, in 2019, when the mare was five. Kelle showed her as a finalist in the NCHA Western Nationals, and Randy showed her on July 16, as a 2020 NCHA Classic Challenge Open Intermediate finalist.
