WESTERN BLOODSTOCK TO OFFER NYCHA BENEFIT ITEMS
The eyes of the cutting horse world will be on the Will Rogers Memorial Complex in Fort Worth, Texas next month as Western Bloodstock offers the biggest selection of cutting horses in its history during the NCHA Futurity.
But cutting horses won’t be the only thing you’ll see in the sale ring this year. Western Bloodstock and the National Youth Cutting Horse Association are teaming up to offer some unique items as an NYCHA fundraiser.
Theoretically, a buyer could pick up a horse, custom chaps and boots, plus a show entry and accommodations package—all without leaving his or her seat.
Sale of the specialty items, which will be cataloged just like the horses in the Western Bloodstock sales, will benefit NYCHA activities, and help to launch a series of educational cutting clinics for youth members, said Jan Newman, chairman of NCHA’s youth committee.
"Our whole idea was to try to get the youth organization as much exposure as possible," Newman said, "and I can’t think of any place better than those sales during the final weekend of the Futurity."
With help from Susan Waggoner, Greg Welch, Lindy Burch, Stephanie Hames, and Western Bloodstock’s Milt Bradford, Newman has rounded up an assortment of items that will be certain to give the ringmen a workout December 14-15.
"Paula Gaughan has donated a $1,600 entry fee to the Suncoast Winter Circuit in February, plus accommodations for the duration of the show in Las Vegas," Newman said.
"Calvin and Brenda Allen have donated custom-made chaps, and M.L. Leddy’s will make custom-made boots for whoever the winning bidder is on those items."
All proceeds from the sale of these items will support the NYCHA scholarship fund and educational programs.
The National Youth Cutting Horse Association provides a variety of activities and programs for young cutters and youngsters whose families are involved in cutting.
Participation in NYCHA helps develop leadership skills, and it enables members to meet their peers from all across the country.
The association offers members numerous scholarship opportunities, and an extensive awards and recognition program.
Since 1994, NYCHA’s Levels of Excellence Award Program (LEAP) gives members a way to accumulate points throughout their youth careers, and achieve progressive levels of recognition.
The program was designed to give youth in the cutting horse family a way to participate in youth activities even if they were not showing cutting horses.
Paralleling the growth of the National Cutting Horse Association, membership in NYCHA has reached an all-time record of more than 1,200 members this year.
