Chevy Truck winners are Mike & Gail Priest

Oklahoma couple drives home from 2002 Chevy Trucks / NCHA World Championship Futurity in brand new Chevy truck

(Fort Worth, TX)    In the beginning, there were 78,046 entries in the drawing for the brand new, fully-loaded Chevy Duramax diesel crew-cab dually truck to be given away at the 2002 Chevy Trucks / National Cutting Horse Association World Championship Futurity.

Then the pool was narrowed to just 100 names at the onset of the 19-day Futurity, which paid out over $2.7 million and had record-breaking entries. On the first day, 10 names were drawn out of the pool, and every successive day five more names were eliminated. That left five people who were still “in” the drawing on the evening of December 15.

Of the 78,046 total entries gathered over the course of the year through membership and winning checks at NCHA-approved cuttings, the five people who had a chance to drive home the truck on the evening of the Futurity Open Finals were:

Sheldon & Patti Buxton of Union City, Oklahoma

Don & Pam Dubin (Canyon Creek Ranch) of Genoa, Nevada

Nicki Hiner of North Powder, Oregon

            Allen Crouch of Noxapater, Mississippi

Mike & Gail Priest of Roff, Oklahoma

Each of the five truck finalists was given a chance to draw a key fob out of a hat during the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Chevy Trucks / NCHA World Championship Futurity on the floor of the historic Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum. Finalists chose their key fob in alphabetical order of last name, each hoping that their fob would be “the one.”

But before Mike and Gail Priest even touched the button on their fob, they knew they were the winners. The first four remotes did not work – leaving only the winning remote for the Priests, who returned to Roff, Oklahoma, with a fully-loaded Chevy Duramax diesel truck.

“We are honored to continue our relationship with the National Cutting Horse Association.  This is our 19th year to be involved with the NCHA and its members, who are definitely a truck-driving group," said Jo Lynne Pierce of the Chevy Trucks Marketing Division.
