Cutting gets new audience with "Cutting Horse Vineyard" Chardonnay

New label from Trefethen Vineyards commemorates sport

(Fort Worth, TX)The Trefethen family of Napa, California, is passionate about two things: wine and cutting. The release of their new label, "Cutting Horse Vineyards" chardonnay, is the perfect blend of both.

Janet Trefethen, who has been an active member of the National Cutting Horse Association since 1992, comes from a family renowned for its Napa Valley Estate Grown wines. It seemed only fitting for Trefethen to integrate these two life-long pursuits.

Cutting Horse Vineyards Chardonnay is a tribute to the sport of the cutting, complete with the image of a cutting horse and rider on the label. Attendees of the 2002 NCHA Annual Convention had an opportunity to sample Cutting Horse Vineyards Chardonnay during the Sponsors Appreciation Reception on Saturday, June 8. The chardonnay is made exclusively from grapes grown in Trefethen's Estate Vineyard, located at the southern end of the world-famous Napa Valley.

Cutting Horse Vineyards Chardonnay is a limited-release wine, with less than two hundred cases produced. A percentage of the sales will go to NCHA charities, and to Colorado State University for equine medical research. Suggested retail price for a bottle is $20.

"This is a wonderful way to enjoy a great wine and give support to the equestrian community at the same time," said Trefethen.

The National Cutting Horse Association is made up of 14,000 members across the United States with a wide range of backgrounds. The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for everyday ranch work and cattle handling. From cowgirls to CEOs, from firefighters to professional football players, the common ground is often in the cutting arena. Each year more than 1,400 NCHA-approved events are held throughout the country with more than $26 million in prize money awarded.
