FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COVER GIRL SALONO GOES HOME IN NEW TRAILER!
Who said late draws were bad? Not so, according to Doc Holliday, the champion buckle-collecting gal from Huron, Ohio. Holliday took a next-to-last draw in the 2000 Sooner Trailer/NCHA work-off finals and turned it into rolling gold. Drawing 17th in an 18-horse bunch, Holliday found 3 exceptional cows and rode Covergirl Solano to a score of 224.
Doc Holiday was looking for a winning run when she rode into the herd. Without any hesitation, she immediately singled out a black baldy, aggressively took it to the middle of the arena where she held it for almost 20 seconds before returning to cut her 2nd cow, another black baldy. Again, Covergirl Solano trapped the cow in the middle of the arena and held it until it finally gave out, stopping any movement with 53 seconds left on the clock.
It took Holliday less than 10 seconds to chip her 3rd cow from the side of the herd, pushing it to the middle of the arena where she then worked the cow for a remarkable 44 seconds. Her score of 224 led the competition by 3 points.
The winning run earned Holliday ownership of a Deluxe Model 3-horse slant load Sooner trailer. The Sooner/NCHA Weekend in June was the first go-round for the highest money-earning non-professionals from the 24 areas to earn a chance to compete at the NCHA Summer Spectacular against one another in the one–shot work-off. Should the top non-pro be unable to attend the Fort Worth event, the next highest non-pro money earner could step into the race for the Sooner trailer. Holliday won the opportunity to come to Fort Worth by being the highest non-professional money earner in Area 15.
Holliday isn’t a novice to the winner’s circle at the Summer Spectacular. Last year at the 1999 show, Holliday won 5 belt buckles from the various classes in which she competed.
Professional’s Choice of Spring Valley, California presented the remaining 17 contestants with Sports medicine boots.
The NCHA Summer Spectacular got under way July 13 at the Fort Worth Will Rogers Coliseum. During the 18-day show, which will end July 30, over 1000 competitors will compete for more than $1,200,000.
Next week, July 22-July 30, features cutting competitions on 4-year-old horses with open competitors, non-professional competitors and amateur competitors riding. Daily go-rounds are free beginning each morning at 8:00 a.m. The ticketed finals performances on July 29 and July 30 are only $5.00 for general admission and $8.00 for reserved seating.
