AMATEUR FINALISTS DOUBLE UP

Dustin Adams of Dublin, Texas and his mare Justa Ginnin Miss will be in the show arena on Friday. The mare, by Justa Swinging Peppy and out of Miss Tanquery Band not only carried her owner to the finals, but her score of 219 made them the leaders of the Amateur Derby Go-Round.

Shortys Barlon Toni and her owner Billie Aylseworth were right behind them with a score of 218. Aylseworth was all smiles about her mare’s exceptional run.

"She’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a 4-year-old," said Aylesworth as she described her mare. She and her husband, William Aylesworths purchased Shortys Barlon Toni as a weanling from Froni Shelton, the widow of the late Bobby Shelton. The mare’s dam, Barlon Toni was shown by Shelton.

Of the 128 horses entered in the Derby Amateur class, 30 of those horses with a score of 212 or better will return Friday afternoon for their finals. The finalists make an interesting mix. Leader Dustin Adams along with finalists Lee Tennison of Fort Worth and Megan Merrill of Purcell, Oklahoma, all return to the finals on two horses. In addition, husband and wife team David McDavid and Stacie McDavid, Fort Worth residents also both qualified for the event.
