Senior Youth Champion Crowned at Chevy Eastern
Jackson, Mississippi (March 18, 2000)- Nineteen-year-old Lindsay Moore took home the senior youth championship title at the Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships held at the Mississippi State Fair Grounds Equestrian Center presented by the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA).
Competing against more than 60 top youth cutters from around the country, Moore riding Playboys habit, scored a 220.5 for the Senior Youth Championship. Moore of Onstead, Michigan rode the 19-year-old horse to the $10,000 Amateur Championship title of this event last year. Moore said she began showing the gelding by Freckles Playboy approximately three years ago.
Working last in the event, Moore said she was not nervous about her draw.
"I tell you, I like to draw last. My horse likes the tougher cows. They give im a challenge and with the soft cows, he just kind of dallies around. I feel confident when I draw there."
Additionally, Moore and Playboys Habit secured the 1999 Area 15 Youth Championship as well as the Reserve in 1998 and won the $20,000 Non-Pro title at the 1999 All-American Quarter Horse Congress. Outside of cutting, she says she enjoys golf and fashion design.
Seventeen-year-old Jamie Sokol of New Smyrna Beach, Florida scored a 218.5 for the Senior Youth Reserve Championship riding Lucky Bottom Roy, a 17-year-old gelding she has owned for two years.
Sokol recently placed in the Top 10 Senior Youth cutters in the world and is the 1999 High School Rodeo Association Cutting Champion as well as placing in the top 10 of the 1998 Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships Senior Youth division.
The Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships and its sister event, Chevy Trucks Western National Championships, are open to top cutters around the world through qualification-based events. In order to participate, competitors must rank within the top 10 in any NCHA-approved division in their local Area or Affiliate, and must compete in that division in the championships. Qualifying competitors are eligible to compete in either or both Jackson and Ogden, with winners from each event going on to compete in the Chevy Trucks/ M.L. Leddy’s National Championships at the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular.
