Ft Worth, Texas- If you are looking for some fun this summer then head down to the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum on July 13th- July 30th for the 2000 NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular. The annual event is sponsored by the National Cutting Horse Association, daily go-rounds are free beginning each day at 8 a.m. Tickets for the finals performances on July 13th, July 29th and July 30th are only $5 for general admission and $8 for reserved seating, shows both days begin at 3 p.m.
Born in the days of the Old West, the sport of cutting features some of the world’s top athletes- cutting horses. Combining pure skill and athleticism, the object is for horse and rider to separate a single cow from the herd and keep the cow from returning to the herd. It’s two and a half minutes of pure excitement.
Featuring more than 1,000 of the world’s top cutting horses and riders, the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular consists of the Derby, Classic/Challenge, Sooner Trailer/ NCHA Weekend Area Work-Off, Chevy Trucks/ M.L. Leddy’s East/West Shoot-Out and the Youth Scholarship Cutting.
This Summer Cutting Spectacular will start off with the Chevy Trucks/ M.L. Leddy’s East/West Shootout, which features 11 champions from the Chevy Trucks Eastern Championship and the 11 champions from the Chevy Trucks Western Championship and puts them in head to head competition. The winner of each 11 divisions wins a custom M.L. Leddy saddle.
In it’s 30th year, the NCHA Derby is open to 4-year-old horses and is the final leg of the Great American Insurance $1 Million Triple Challenge (the NCHA Futurity and the NCHA Super Stakes make up the first two legs). The NCHA Classic/Challenge is open to 5-and 6-year old cutting horses.
The Youth Scholarship Cutting, presented by Tony Lama Boot Company and Professional’s Choice, will cap off an eventful week for members of the National Youth Cutting Horse Association (NYCHA). Top youth cutters from around the country will compete for more than $15,000 in scholarship money on July 18th.
Corporate sponsors of the NCHA will trade business suits and ties for starched jeans and chaps on July 21st in the annual Sponsor’s Cutting, allowing “Corporate America” the excitement of experiencing cutting competition first hand.
Also on the 21st of July The Sooner Trailer/ NCHA Weekend Area Work-Off will take place. This event takes the top non-pro from 25 areas and allows them to compete for a Sooner 3 horse gooseneck trailer.
