NCHA membership elects Mike Mowery for

2003 Vice Presidential role in close race

Mere 250 of 3,459 votes put Mike Mowery ahead of Bob Mayfield

(Fort Worth, TX)    Mike Mowery of Millsap, Texas has been elected to serve as the new Vice President of the National Cutting Horse Association. Mowery was victorious in the election which concluded on May 23, 2003. All NCHA members were eligible to vote.

Mike Mowery started his cutting career at the age of ten. He is the son of cutting horse trainer Bill Mowery, and has thus been involved in cutting for his whole life. He began his career as a professional cutting horse trainer at the age of 18.

His cutting achievements since that time have been numerous. He has been inducted into the NCHA Riders Hall of Fame, and has campaigned horses to multiple Limited Age Event championships in addition to winning the NCHA World Championship.

Mowery’s service to the NCHA has come by way of time served on the NCHA Executive Committee. He has presided over the North Texas Cutting Horse Association for the last three years and spent time leading the Arizona Cutting Horse Association in the 1970s.

“Thirty-two years in this industry have enabled me to see cutting form many different angles,” said Mowery. “I hope that through the experiences I have gained, I might be able to bring some ideas to benefit the future of the NCHA.”

Under NCHA guidelines, Mowery will serve a one-year term as Vice President, followed by a one-year term as President Elect before serving a one-year term as NCHA President.

The National Cutting Horse Association is made up of 14,000 members across the United States with a wide range of backgrounds. The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for everyday ranch work and cattle handling. From cowgirls to CEOs, from firefighters to professional football players, the common ground is often in the cutting arena. Each year more than 1,400 NCHA-approved events are held throughout the country with more than $26 million in prize money awarded.
