(Fort Worth, TX) -- For cutters, the annual NCHA World Championship Futurity is always like a family reunion. New and old members gather between Thanksgiving and Christmas for the biggest show of the year, and it is a perfect time for the National Cutting Horse Association to recognize and induct new Hall of Fame members.
Hall of Fame inductees must meet stringent guidelines set by the association. The 2001 NCHA Hall of Fame inductees are:
Members Hall of Fame --
- Roger Odum of Walterboro, South Carolina (deceased)
- Larry Townsend of Hammond, Louisiana (deceased)
- Byron Matthews of Fort Worth, Texas
- Ray Smith of Mantachie, Mississippi
Riders Hall of Fame --
- Matt Gaines of Weatherford, Texas
- Guy Woods of Pilot Point, Texas
Non-Pro Hall of Fame --
- Lonnie Allsup of Clovis, New Mexico
- Joey Milner of Southlake, Texas
Horse Hall of Fame --
- Christys Acre, owned by Robert & Andrea Finger of Houston, Texas and ridden by Pat Earnheart of Hernando, Mississippi
Horse of the Year --
- Justa Smart Peanut, owned by Dean Sanders of Anderson, Texas and ridden by Faron Hightower of Bluff Dale, Texas
All 2001 NCHA award-winners will be honored at the Hall of Fame & Awards party hosted by the Professional Trainers on the evening of Saturday, December 8.
