Non-Pro Champion Tim May Makes his Mark with a Second Win at the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships
The flames of Tim May's hot streak sent off sparks on Saturday, March 24, when the Saltillo, Mississippi native won the Non-Pro on Hey Little Jude during the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships at Jackson, Mississippi. His 219.5-point score edged out Co-Reserve Champions Adyn Schuyler and Timmy Johnston by one-half point.
"This is a special horse to me," said May, who won the $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro earlier in the two-week event on AR Boon River. "Hey Little Jude doesn't need a bad cow to win. He can look good on a soft cow, too," May said. "I enjoy riding him more than my other horse."
May is currently ranked third on the horse in NCHA Non-Pro World Championship standings. He also leads the Novice/Non-Pro World standings on AR Boon River.
"As long as it continues to be fun and I continue to win, and my business allows me to go, I'm going to go," said May, who owns a cattle conditioning operation.
The Co-Reserve Non-Pro Championship title went to Adyn Schuyler of Lena, Mississippi and Timmy Johnston of Conway, South Carolina.
Riding 16-year-old Little Tassalena, Adyn Schuyler scored 219 points on three cows to tie Johnston during the Saturday, March 24 afternoon competition. "This horse has a lot of athletic ability," said Schuyler of the Smart Little Lena gelding, purchased from Tom Lyons six years ago.
Johnston rode 8-year-old Peppy Fino, a gelded son of Haidas Little Pep that he trained himself. "Three of the judges loved it," said Johnston of his ride in the Non-Pro finals. "The cattle were good and the horse did everything he could."
The Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships came to its conclusion on Saturday, March 24 with Non-Pro and Open Finals competition. The competitors at the event had qualified to participate through the affiliates or regional cutting competition. More than 900 entries were vying for more than $90,000 in cash and prizes.
