Trey Hall Brings Down the House with his $50,000 Amateur Eastern National Championship Win

Riding High N Fancy, 18-year-old Trey Hall of Bartow, Florida ambushed competition in the $50,000 Amateur Finals and took no prisoners during the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi on Wednesday, March 21.

His 227-point score as the last rider in the $50,000 Amateur Finals, brought down the house. Marcus Haggard of League City, Texas, took Reserve with 217.5 points.

Hall, who had already captured the $20,000 Non-Pro Championship title during last Tuesday night's competition riding High N Fancy, spurred his 10-year-old gelding on for the highest mark ever scored for the pair.

"He was really tired," said Hall of his High Brow Hickory son. "I worked my last cow about 40 seconds. He handled it, though."

Marcus Haggard, of League City, Texas, rode his 7-year-old mare, Smart Lil Highjinks and captured Reserve.

"I had a good draw, seventh in the second bunch," said Haggard. "I knew there were a few more horses later in that bunch that were real good horses, especially Trey's horse. We cut what we wanted to cut and it worked out real good."

The Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships came to its conclusion on Saturday, March 24 with Non-Pro and Open Finals competition. The competitors at the event had qualified to participate through the affiliates or regional cutting competition. More than 900 entries were vying for more than $90,000 in cash and prizes.
