Todd Quirk takes the $2,000 Limit Rider division at the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships
Todd Quirk, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, had his big moment on Thursday, March 22, when he won the $2,000 Limit Rider division of the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships. Riding nine-year-old Poison Oak Smarts, Quirk scored 219 points to beat runnerup Tina Lampkin, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, by two points.
“The cows were good tonight,” said 16-year-old Quirk. “Slow cattle are best for my horse to show off on. He holds his head real low and makes big moves.”
Quirk and his father, Gene, who rode Poison Oak Smarts in the Eastern National Championships $10,000 Amateur division, also show their gelding in Open classes with Bill Dixon of Prairieville, Louisiana.
Tina Lampkin, 31, scored her 217 points on two cows taking the Reserve title riding Freckles Best Lena, the horse she owns with her husband, Ronald.
The Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships came to its conclusion on Saturday, March 24 with Non-Pro and Open Finals competition. The competitors at the event had qualified to participate through the affiliates or regional cutting competition. More than 900 entries were vying for more than $90,000 in cash and prizes.
