Smiles abound at Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships

NCHA spreads goodwill with Sooner Trailer giveaway and Benefit live auction for the Orthopedic Division of the University of Mississippi Medial Center

(Fort Worth, TX) National Cutting Horse Association member Gary Walker left the annual NCHA Catfish Fry in Jackson, Mississippi, with a full stomach and a large smile on his face. Walker, of Tehaucana, Texas, ate his share of 400 pounds of catfish that was prepared for the crowd of cutters before his name was drawn as the winner of the event's Sooner Trailer giveaway.

Greg Kinard of Southern Trailers of Mississippi was on hand to take entries and announce the winner of the three-horse gooseneck Sooner Trailer. Hundreds of names were gathered for the drawing. Walker and his family will have full use of the trailer for one year, thanks to the "Official Trailer of the NCHA," Sooner Trailers. For more than 30 years, Sooner Trailer manufacturing has been the leader in innovative design and function. For more information about Sooner Trailers, you can visit www.soonertrailers.com or call 1-800-255-6979.

Prior to the trailer giveaway, the National Cutting Horse Association held a live auction to benefit the Orthopedic Division of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Thanks to the contributions of those present for the Catfish Fry, the NCHA was able to raise $4,100 for the group, which provides artificial limbs and braces for those in need. Items auctioned included the "6th Judge Package," a Frederick Remington bronze, a Byron Folse watercolor, an NCHA Lifetime Membership, golf outings, an overnight stay at a Jackson bed & breakfast, a John Deere chainsaw, and a catfish party for 30.

The Catfish Fry, Sooner Trailer giveaway and benefit live auction were all held in conjunction with the 2001 Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi. From March 12 through the 23rd, 979 cutters will compete for $286,043 and championship titles in 11 divisions. The City of Jackson, Mississippi, has been home of the Eastern Nationals cutting for 21 years. Past figures credit the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships for bringing an economic impact to the city of $8 million.

The NCHA and HorseCity.com have developed an interactive, educational site about the sport. Visit and learn more at www.horsecity.com/NCHAcutting/nchacutting.shtml.
