8th Annual Celebrity Cutting to Benefit Cancer Care and NCHA Charities

2002 Celebrity Cutting will be held December 6 at WRMC

(Fort Worth, TX)    Join your friends at the 2002 Celebrity Cutting in Fort Worth for a star-studded evening of great cutting, live country & western music, an auction and lots of fun presented by Americredit.

The 8th Annual Celebrity Cutting will be held on December 6 during the 2002 Chevy Trucks / National Cutting Horse Association World Championship Futurity at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. The Celebrity Cutting is a one of a kind, one night only opportunity to watch some of the nation’s best celebrity cutters while supporting two great causes – Cancer Care and NCHA Charities.

Cancer Care Services has been dedicated to providing services to under-served cancer patients and their families since 1946. From emotional support and counseling to treatment related needs, Cancer Care Services works within a network of community agencies and medical suppliers to provide patients with the help they need. The financial support of local foundations, businesses, individuals and United Way give Cancer Care Services the means to serve cancer patients in Tarrant, Parker and Hood counties. The community’s support of the Celebrity Cutting has raised over $150,000 each year for these charities.

The Cutters In Action (CIA) Foundation’s top priorities are the education of NCHA youth and assistance to NCHA families in times of crisis. The CIA has been a tremendous help to many NCHA members. Scholarship funds totaling i$436,000 have been awarded to children of NCHA members and $149,000 from the Crisis Fund has been used to assist NCHA families in times of need. The CIA needs continuous support to help insure other members’ assistance when needed. All dues and other contributions to CIA are tax deductible.

Celebrity participants include country superstars Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn and Clay Walker. Of course Bob Kingsley, host of American Country Countdown will be there.  Local celebrities who will be cutting include Steve Lamb (WBAP 820), newscaster Debra Ferguson (NBC 5 KXAS), and Shelly Burmeister Mowery (Fox Sports Net). The list goes on, and so will the fun.

The cutting will begin at 7 pm on December 6 at Will Rogers Coliseum. Tickets prices are $10 for general admission or $100 for a box seat, which includes one box seat at the cutting and one ticket to the Celebrity Shindig afterwards. Tickets for the Celebrity Shindig, where there will be a Mexican buffet dinner catered by Pulido’s, a silent auction to raise money for Cancer Care and CIA, live country music, dancing and fun are $25. The Shindig will begin at 9:30 pm in the Round Up Inn.

Beginning on November 27 and continuing through December 15, the Fort Worth community will be inundated with cutters. Over 1,300 three-year-old cutting horses plus all of the trucks, trailers, people, and energy that come along with them will converge on Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum to compete for an estimated $3 million in winnings.  The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for everyday ranch work and cattle handling. The National Cutting Horse Association was formed in 1946 by a group of cowboys and ranchers who wanted to promote cutting competition, standardize rules and preserve the cutting horses' Western heritage.

Today, the Fort Worth-based NCHA represents over 14,000 people and oversees more than 1,400 NCHA-approved shows with more than $26 million in total prize money awarded annually.
