(Fort Worth, TX) -- One of the highlights for the community of Fort Worth during the annual NCHA World Championship Futurity is the Celebrity Cutting. For several years now, the Celebrity Cutting has been held to benefit Cancer Care Services, which is a local organization dedicated to helping low-income cancer patients and their families.
The 2001 version of this event paired a national celebrity with a local media personality for an evening of fun and excitement for all. In an effort to pay tribute to the vital role the service people in the community, Cancer Care Services and the National Cutting Horse Association invited all service personnel -- military, fire, police, and medical -- to attend the event at no charge.
Cancer Care Services' Celebrity Cutting event co-chairs Beverly Branch and Lyn Walsh gathered 14 gracious and noteworthy personalities to cut on the evening of Friday, December 7. The talented list includes: Eion Bailey, Kix Brooks, Barry Corbin, Mike Crow, Bob Kingsley, Steve Lamb, Kristy Lee, Larry Mahan, Shelly Burmeister Mowery, Brad Paisley, Clay Walker, Alice Walton, Melinda Washington and Brad Wright.
When all was said and done, it was the team of Clay Walker and Shelly Mowery that earned the most points. Their 295 points guaranteed each a Gist trophy buckle.
Afterwards, the near-capacity crowd was all invited to attend the Cutter's Shindig at the Round-Up Inn, where Craig Chambers provided country swing entertainment, and the live silent auction offered great holiday gift ideas.
Cancer Care Services has been meeting the financial, social and emotional needs of cancer patients since 1946. In 2000, CCS provided over $600,000 in direct financial assistance to over 68% of newly diagnosed cancer patients, with annual incomes under $15,000 that live in Tarrant, Parker and Hood counties in Texas.
