Mississippi's own Tim May takes $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro at Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships

Tim May of Saltillo, Mississippi closed the book on his $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro campaign with a 221-point win at the Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championships in Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, March 17.

Competing on a tough set of cattle, May's five-year-old AR Boon River, by Powder River Playboy out of Boons Sierra, rose to the challenge.  "I knew what type of cattle I was going to cut," said May about his run in the finals. "I was looking for something that would make my horse run and stop. I never owned one who could stop any faster and get turned around any quicker."

May will compete later this week in the Non-Pro division of the Eastern National Championships riding his favorite mount, Hey Little Jude.

Matt Sullivan of Avon Park, Florida captured the Reserve title with 219.5 points in the $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro class riding Mischievous Floyd. The pair will also compete in the Non-Pro class later this week.

The Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National Championship competition will continue daily beginning at 8AM and culminate with the Non-Pro and Open Finals beginning at 8AM on Saturday, March 24. The competitors at this event have qualified to participate through the affiliates or regional cutting competition. More than 900 entries will be vying for more than $90,000 in cash and prizes.
