Colonel Flip Dox- Chevy Trucks Eastern $3,000 Novice Champion
Jackson, Mississippi (March 16, 2000)- Colonel Flip Dox owned by Kelly Stanford of Victoria, Texas took home the championship title in the $3,000 Novice division of the Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships held at the Mississippi State Fair Grounds Equestrian Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Ridden by Corky Sokol of Brenham, Texas the duo worked three cows for a score of 220 in the finals.
Colonel Flip Dox, a registered American Quarter Horse, has lifetime earnings in excess of $10,000 which include a recent win at the Tomato Futurity and Classic held in Florida in the 5 and 6-year-old division.
"He's a strong stopper," Sokol said of the new champion. "He works with his ears up and looks kind of bright on a cow.
"If I can cut him something decent then he seems to have a lot of eye appeal to him."
And Sokol should now, having ridden several different horses to the winners circle on numerous occasions, including winning the reserve championship of cutting's most prestigious event, the NCHA Open World Championship Futurity, in December aboard Cats Full Measure.
Reserve Champion in the $3,000 Novice division was Miss Freckles Boon owned by Lonnie and Barbara Allsup of Clovis, New Mexico ridden by Robert Rust of New Ulm, Texas.
The $3,000 Novice division is open to horses having lifetime earnings of $3,000 or less, excluding money won in limited age events.
