Malinda Moore Wins $2,000 Limit Rider Championship At The
Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships
Jackson, Mississippi (March 20, 2000)- Marking a 215.0 in the finals of the 1998 Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships presented by the National Cutting Horse Association, Malinda Moore of Onstead, Michigan riding Squall N Chex captured the $2,000 Limit Rider Championship.
"It was incredible," Moore said. "The whole ride was just fabulous. I picked three cows and they pretty much worked with me. I just tried to stay clean."
Of her winning strategy Moore commented, "I rely on my help for my strategy! Jim Mitchell and Marlyn Eggers, they're really good at picking my cows."
However, she gives most of the credit to her mount, a 19-year-old gelding. Moore, who has been cutting for six years said this is her first time to have qualified and competed at the Chevy Trucks Eastern Nationals. Incidentally, Moore's daughter, Lindsay, was named the Chevy Eastern Senior Youth Champion only a few days prior to her win.
For her win she received an official NCHA trophy, Gist buckle, Cowboy Tack blanket, Stetson hat, Professional's Choice products package and a Chevy Trucks jacket as well as a check for more than $2,000.
Leander, Texas resident Tamra Gilbert took home the reserve championship of the $2,000 Limit Rider class riding Fancy Little Peppy, a 13-year-old mare, to a score of 218.5.
The $2,000 Limit Rider class is open to all riders with lifetime competition earnings of $2,000 or less. Riders in this class may ride any horse regardless of earnings or ownership. The Chevy Trucks Eastern National Championships and its sister event, the Chevy Trucks Western National Championships held in Ogden, Utah, are open to qualifying cutters from around the world. In order to participate, competitors must rank within the Top 10 in any NCHA-approved division in their local Area or Affiliate and must compete in that same division in the championships. Winners from all 11 divisions of each event go on to compete in the Chevy Trucks/ M.L. Leddy’s National Championships at the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular in July.
