Copperish takes the lead

Copperish shone on first day of Metallic Cat Summer Spectacular

Copperish, under Lloyd Cox for Jimmie Miller Smith, Geary, Okla., scored 224 points on Sunday, July 15, to top the first day of 2018 NCHA/Metallic Cat Classic Challenge first go-round competition. Moms Stylish Player, with 222.5 points, earned the second highest score under Kenny Platt for Robert Tregemba, Lawrence, Kan., and Stevie Rey Von scored 222 points with Beau Galyean for Fults Ranch.

Five-year-old Metallic Merry LTE $106,329, sired by Metallic Cat and shown by Cara Brewer for Jim Haworth, scored 221.5 points, while 6-year-old Kattalyst LTE $150,228, sired by Metallic Cat and shown by Adan Banuelos for Ten/27 Ranch, marked 221 points.

Copperish LTE $158,119, launched her 5-year-old season in the 2018 Abilene Spectacular Open, shown by Cox to tie for the championship with CR WRS Royal Tee. It was the Metallic Cat daughter’s third major career win. Bred by Double Dove Ranch, out of Stylish Play Lena, by Docs Stylish Oak, Copperish is half-sister to  the earners of $1,748,054, including Pepto Boom LTE $296,183; NCHA Horse of the Year Smooth Talkin Style LTE $293,232; and Halreycious LTE $227,459.

Six-year-old gelding Moms Stylish Player LTE $317,508 won both the NCHA Super Stakes and the NCHA Derby with Platt at four and added the Breeders Invitational Classic and Bonanza Classic open championships in 2017. Sired by Lizzys Gotta Player and bred by Drummond Land and Cattle, Moms Stylish Player added this year’s NCHA Western Nationals Open championship to this year’s list of accomplishments with Platt, as well as a third in the Pacific Coast Derby 5/6 Open.

Stevie Rey Von LTE $396,472, winner of the 2015 NCHA Open Futurity, has claimed two open championships, the NCHA Super Stakes Classic and the Cattlemen’s Classic, this year with Beau Galyean. The 8-year-old son of Metallic Cat is a full brother to Purple Reyn LTE $356,632, 2015 NCHA Non-Pro Horse of the Year.
