Mercuria WSOC Las Vegas

Hall of Fame Rider Gary Gonsalves and Reyzin The Cash marked 227 to win the Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting at the Mane Event Saturday evening, February 18. Non-Pro Hall of Famer Cade Shepard and Gini One Time won their division with a 228. The show was held in the South Point Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This was Gonsalves’ ninth trip to the Mercuria finals, but his first win in the prestigious series, open to horses of all ages. Reyzin The Cash collected $8,061 from the $43,216 Open purse.

Bred and owned by Tom Bailey’s Iron Rose Ranch of Carbondale, Colorado, Reyzin The Cash is a 6-year-old by Dual Rey out of Spookys Cash. An NCHA Futurity finalist, Spookys Cash earned more than $284,000 and has produced earners of $560,000. Spookys Cash is a daughter of $1.4 million producer San Starlight.

Reyzin The Cash and Gonsalves won the NCHA Derby / NCHA Classic Challenge double in 2015/16. They’ve also taken major championships at the Pacific Coast Derby, Cattlemen’s Derby, Idaho Derby, El Rancho Derby, and Arbuckle Mountain.

CR Gotcha Covered, ridden by Tarin Rice for Joel and Jane Colgrove; and QB Cat, ridden by Clint Allen for David and Stacie McDavid, both marked 221 for second place in the Open.

CR Gotcha Covered is a 5-year-old son of Dualin Boon out of The Catattac, by High Brow Cat. QB Cat is a 9-year-old gelding by High Brow Cat out of Quintan Blue.

In the Non-Pro division, 15-year-old Cade Shepard of Summerdale, Alabama, earned $7,845 from the $44,458 purse with his 228 on Gini One Time.

It was the first major win for Gini One Time, a 7-year-old mare bred by Gary Dellinger by One Time Pepto out of Paving The Rey, by Dual Rey. Cade’s father, Austin Shepard, took reserve championships on the mare at Augusta and the Southern Derby, and the mare has now earned more than $83,000.

Gini One Time’s dam, Paving The Way, is a full sister to Brazos Bash champion and $200,000 earner Tootsie Rey.

Shepard has earned Non-Pro championships at the NCHA Super Stakes, Super Stakes Classic and Derby, along with a host of other shows. He won the 2017 Ike Hamilton Classic with Twistful Thinking on his way to Las Vegas.

This was Shepard’s fourth appearance in the Mercuria finals, and his first win in the World Series of Cutting.

Lindy Ashlock of Abilene, Texas, and Little Miss One Time marked 223 for second place in the Mane Event. Little Miss One Time is a 7-year-old mare by One Time Pepto out of Puddy Kat, by High Brow Cat.
