Mike Mowery, of Millsap, Texas, will serve NCHA as President for the next year.  “I have been involved in cutting all of my life, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve the NCHA as its President,” Mowery said.

Bob Mayfield, of Wills Point, TX, recently was elected as Vice President and was officially installed over the weekend in Nevada. “I’m excited and very appreciative of all of the people that supported me and voted for me,” said Mayfield, who has been a member of NCHA for nearly 30 years. As the new Vice President, Mayfield is now in line to become NCHA President in June, 2007. An NCHA Director for many years, Mayfield also was a member of the NCHA Executive Committee from 1994-2002.

Bill Riddle, of Ringling, OK, was also installed as President-Elect.  He will serve as NCHA President beginning in June, 2006.  As a member of NCHA since 1977 and a professional trainer, Riddle has amassed more than $3.5 million in lifetime earnings.

The membership also elected new members to the Executive Committee.  Region II selected Dr. Jerry Black, of Oakdale, CA as their representative for the next three years.  Black first joined NCHA in 1983 and has been an active Non-Professional rider.

Region III will be represented by Ernie Beutenmiller, Jr. over the next three years.  Beutenmiller is a long-time NCHA member from Union, MO.  As a professional trainer, he has been a finalist at numerous Limited Aged Events across the United States with lifetime earnings exceeding $350,000.  Beutenmiller is also a highly respected NCHA judge.

Region VI, re-elected Punk Carter to serve three more years.  Carter has been an active NCHA member for more than 40 years.  As a professional trainer, he has enjoyed being a finalist at the NCHA World Championship Futurity, Super Stakes and other various events across the country.  Carter, of Celina, TX, has earned more than $320,000 in NCHA earnings.  He also celebrates four generations of family participating in NCHA events.

The NCHA Directors also re-elected Modine Smith of North San Juan, California to continue representing NCHA on the executive committee.  Smith has been a very active member of the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association and NCHA since becoming a member in 1974.

The National Cutting Horse Association is made up of 16,500 members across the United States with a wide range of backgrounds. The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for everyday ranch work and cattle handling. From cowgirls to CEOs, from firefighters to professional football players, the common ground is often in the cutting arena. Each year more than 2,200 NCHA-approved events are held throughout the country with more than $35 million in prize money awarded.
