Showdown for the Western Horseman Cup

The finals of the NCHA/Western Horseman Cup to be held January 28.

(Fort Worth, TX)—The thirty finalists in the 2004 Western Horseman Cup cutting horse Finals have been invited to Augusta, GA to compete in a one round, sudden death competition for the Cup.  The top fifteen Non-Pro riders and fifteen Open horses from the National Cutting Horse Association 2004 point year will meet up for one final showdown on January 28, 2005.

Inaugurated last year, the Western Horseman Cup features a $250,000-added finals at the Augusta Futurity in January for horses that have qualified by earning points at existing NCHA-approved limited age events across the United States and Canada throughout the year. The 2004 championship series encompassed 49 events with nearly $6 million in added money. The series is split into the Quarter Horse News Spring Season, which concluded May 25; the Horsecity.com Summer Season, which concluded September 18; and the Westernhorseman.com Fall Season, which concluded November 13.

The National Cutting Horse Association is made up of over 16,000 members across the United States with a wide range of backgrounds. The sport of cutting has roots in Western ranching traditions, where good horses were a necessity for every day ranch work and cattle handling. From cowgirls to CEOs, from firefighters to professional football players, the common ground is often in the cutting arena. Each year more than 2,200 NCHA-approved events are held throughout the country with more than $35 million in prize money awarded.
