NCHA HELPS DISASTER RELIEF
To make it easy for NCHA members to contribute to the
disaster relief effort, the NCHA is collecting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross.
WORLD CHAMPION MERADAS LITTLE SUE TO BE
SOLD
Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt of Houston, Texas, have
consigned Meradas Little Sue, the gritty mare that Kobie Wood rode to NCHA World
Championship titles in 1995, 1996 and 1999, to Western Bloodstock's Preferred
Breeders Sale during the NCHA Futurity. (Full

InStyle
Pick up a copy of the Oct. issue of
InStyle magazine and be like millions of other readers who will get a glimpse of
cutting--celebrity-style! Covering nearly a half page in an article written
about celebrities and their horses, is a photo of supermodel Christie Brinkley
in action on her cutting horse. Says Brinkley, "I am one of the only cowboys on
Long Island!"
BRAZOS
BASH
Pretty In The Pink, owned by Betsy Mecom
and shown by Lloyd Cox, was the Futurity Open Champion at the 2001 Brazos Bash
in Weatherford, Texas.
The Classic Open saw Smart Little Scoot mark a 227 to win the Championship with Roy Carter riding for S&S Farms.
Playguns Desire owned by Kelly Bartlett took the 4-year-old Open Championship with Mike Mowery aboard. Mowery also rode Some Kinda Memories to win the shoot-out with a score 231.
Each winner earned $15,000 at the pay window. Other Championship titles were awarded to: Classic $50,000 Amateur, Glamorous Dually and Milt Bradford; Classic Non-Pro, SRS Munyeca and Alice Walton; Derby $50,000 Amateur, Dharma Jewels and Cyndi Goodwin; Derby Non-Pro, Thorn Doc Whisky and Amy Welch King.
RALEIGH RESULTS
The 2001 Raleigh Cutting Series in Raleigh, North Carolina,
came to an exciting close last weekend. Here are some of the new Champions:
3-year-old Open Champion & Non-Pro Champion is Miss Cowboys Toy, owned and ridden by Jarrett Callahan; 3-year-old Amateur Champion, Buck Ashley riding Play Little Master.
4-year-old Open Champion & Non-Pro Champion, Savannah Holli ridden and owned by Frank Bowen; 4-year-old Amateur Champion, Kathy Reeves riding Peppy Caspy.
5/6-year-old Open (work-off) Champion, Lena Jo Lena, owned by Maben Thompson and ridden by Mike Claytor; 5/6-year-old Non-Pro Champion Ed Blakey riding Teles The Scoop; 5/6-year-old Amateur Champion, Jim Johnson riding Skater Blue.
TRAINERS PARTY
To show their appreciation to customers and the entire
cutting horse industry, NCHA's Professional Trainers are hosting the 1st Annual
NCHA Hall of Fame & Awards Party during this year's World Championship
Futurity in Fort Worth, Texas. The party will feature the presentation of the

ROSIES LENA CLOSES IN
Rosies Lena with rider Robert Rust added
over $12,000 in earnings to boost their standings in the race headed for the
2001-point year World Finals Championships contest. It wasn't enough to topple Christys Acre and rider Pat Earnheart from
their number one position in the Open World division. A mere $134.61 separates
the contenders, giving Rosies Lena a solid second-placed slot.
Mary Jo Milner added 17 shows and $13,000 in earnings to keep her post at the top of the Non-Pro World standings. Her husband, Jim Milner, holds on to second and Robert Brown, to third position.
The World contenders will square off at the John Deere/NCHA World Championship Finals slated for February 14-17, 2002, in Houston, Texas.

The Pacific Coast Cutting Horse
Association is the largest NCHA
affiliate with 1,365 members at last count.

The annual PCCHA Legend Futurity & Gelding Stakes is scheduled for Oct. 26-Nov. 4 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, California. This popular show has an added purse this year of $400,000!
A General Membership Meeting will be held during the show on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 5:00 p.m.
NCHA WOMEN WILL BE
HONORED
Sheila Welch of Rotan, Texas, will be
the third woman to be honored with the Fern Sawyer Award at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame's
26th Annual Induction Luncheon on November
9 at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel in Fort Worth. She will be awarded for
her hard work to advance the mission of the museum.
Carol Rose of Gainesville, Texas, will be inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame during the luncheon for her contribution to the equine industry.
Welch and Rose are both former NCHA Non-Pro World Champions.

RENEWAL
A new 3-year renewal is available with
the NCHA, saving you time and money and uninterrupted membership benefits
through 2004.
All 2002 membership renewals, whether for 3 years or 1 year, received in the NCHA offce prior to Oct. 31, 2001 will be entered in a drawing for three Lifetime memberships. Those not chosen in the Oct. drawing will be entered in the November drawing for one Lifetime membership.

HEPATITIS FUNDRAISER
A Cuttin' Capital Celebration
with entertainment by Red Steagall and special guests has been planned to raise
funds for Hepatitis C awareness, screening, and patient support. The event will
take place on November 9, 7 p.m. - 12 midnight at the Radisson Hotel in Fort

YOUTH COORDINATOR joins NCHA Staff
The NCHA has found a new Youth Coordinator! Danette McGuire will join the Fort
Worth team on October 15. Prior to coming to the NCHA, Ms. McGuire served as
the New Mexico State 4-H Activities Specialist at New Mexico State University
