CUTTING IS THE BEST MEDICINE
Docacoo, a 26-year-old cutting horse owned by Sarah Gentry of West Salem, Ohio, has a big fan in Gentry's mother, 79-year-old Myrth Herald. Read the whole story.

NEW BOOK
A chapter on Leo San, by Daily Chatter editor Sally Harrison, is included in Legends 5 , the latest installment of Western Horseman's popular series of books about historic horses. The book includes action photos of Matlock Rose, Buster Welch, and reigning NCHA Non-Pro Derby Champion Kevin Arnold, riding Riosmysister.

DEADLINE FOR SHOW SECRETARIES
The in demand NCHA Travel Planner is in the works for its 2002 publishing. Send or email your Limited Age Event schedule to the NCHA office no later than September 30 to ensure your show will appear in the pages of the popular month-to-month calendar booklet.

AFFILIATE SPOTLIGHT
The Northwest Cutting Horse Association's Ranch Festival in Ft. Klamath, Oregon is in full swing. With over $80,000-added in cash awards, the annual cutting is a good measure of the affiliate's dedication to providing NCHA members with the best possible show opportunities.

Their successful two-day weekend show, August 24-25, drew nearly 600 entries.

The NWCHA currently has 382 members.

POLO RANCH CUTTING
Swinging Little Gal, owned by Dean Sanders of Anderson, Texas scored her way to the winner's circle twice at the 2001 Polo Ranch Cutting in Sheridan, Wyoming resulting in earnings of more than $44,000.

The mare marked 225 with Faron Hightower aboard in the Open 4-year-old Classic. She carried Dean Sanders to a 226-point win in the Non-Pro event.

The Amateur division went to Keith Goett on Purple Lynx with 217.5.

Champions in the 5- & 6-year-old classes were as follows: Open, Smart Lookin Hi Brow and Lloyd Cox with a 230-point score; Non-Pro, Linda Mussallem and Remedy For Sweets scoring 226; and Amateur, Colleen Holt aboard Powder Pepalena with 220 points.

NCHA SELECT TWO-YEAR-OLD SALE SCREENING
The date has changed for the screening for the NCHA Select Futurity Sale to be conducted in Fort Worth at the John Justin Arena of Will Rogers Equestrian Center. The new dates are November 23-24.

JUST AHEAD FOR WEEKEND CUTTING
East Coast cutters will be heading for Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina on September 9, for a Northern Piedmont CHA-sanctioned show. All classes are NCHA-approved with $500-added money to the Open and Non-Pro; $300-added to the $10,000 Novice and $100-added to the $50,000 Amateur. Youth and $2,000 Limit Rider classes offered. On September 16, cutting in the Hill Country means the Central Texas CHA Show at Kerrville, Texas. There will be lots of added money and all classes are NCHA-approved. $500 for Open, Non-Pro and $10,000 Novice; $300 for $50,000 Amateur, $3,000 Novice and $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro. Offers Youth and $2,000 Limit Rider, too. Sec'y Peggy Odam (21) 922-9137.

Cutters in the Midwest won't want to miss the Kenneth Jackson Memorial Weekend cutting on September 23 in Marion, Illinois. This all NCHA-approved show offers added money to its classes: $300 to Open and Non-Pro; $100 to $50,000 Amateur, $10,000 Novice, $3,000 Novice, and $10,000 Novice/Non-Pro. ON THE LIMITED AGE EVENT HORIZON
Limited Age Events have been springing up fast across the continent and in September there are no signs of the action slowing down. Among the aged-horse competitions coming up are the following:

September 12-15, Kansas Cutting Horse Association Futurity, Derby, Classic/Challenge in Salina, Kansas; total added purse $17,000
September 18-22, Raleigh Cutting Series in Raleigh, North Carolina; total added purse $58,000
September 25-30, West Texas Futurity in Amarillo, Texas; total added purse $70,000
September 14-22, Brazos Bash in Weatherford, Texas; total added purse $105,000
September 26-30, Canadian Supreme in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada; total added purse $56,000

JOHN DEERE'S SIGN OF THE TIMES
Who is leading the John Deere/NCHA Non-Pro World Championship race $67,000.36? You guessed right if you said reigning Non-Pro World Champion Mary Jo Milner of Southlake, Texas.

"I want John Deere to know that those signs on the sides of our trucks have gone everywhere," Milner says. "We're grateful that they've come with that sponsorship money for the World Finals."

Jim Milner follows his wife in second place with $38,486.94. A more heated battle is taking place in the third and fourth slots with Robert C. Brown of Tallulah, LA ousting Tim May of Saltillo, Mississippi from third to fourth place. Their earnings are $33,082.04 and $30,431.25 respectively.

The team of Christys Acre and Pat Earnheart of Hernando, Mississippi holds the top Open spot by adding 12 shows and nearly $6,300 to their record since last count. The pair have earned $43,850.39 to date in the race to the John Deere/NCHA World Championships Finals showdown. Not letting up in the race is second-placed Rosies Lena ridden by Robert Rust of New Ulm, Texas with $42,409.54. The biggest move in the Open Top 15 was from 14th to 7th place by So Wild About You ridden by Eddie Bottom and Curly Tully.
