The return of a legend
Appearance planned for Smart Little Lena in Fort Worth at 20-Year Anniversary Celebration

In 1982, Smart Little Lena won the NCHA Futurity, on his way to becoming NCHA's first Triple Crown winner. Since then, he has sired three NCHA Futurity champions and become the all-time leading sire of cutting horses.

To honor this legendary stallion and those individuals who helped foster his career, Western Bloodstock will present "The Tribute to Smart Little Lena" Wednesday, December 11, immediately preceding the exciting NCHA Futurity Select 2-Year-Old Sale. The event, sponsored by the Smart Little Lena Syndicate and Esperanza Ranch will take place in the Watt Arena at the Will Rogers Memorial Complex.

The festivities will include a complimentary barbeque, a brief award ceremony and the premiere of a dynamic video created especially for the event. The high point of the gala will be the guest appearance of Smart Little Lena accompanied by his trainer, Bill Freeman.

Every guest and participant at the NCHA Futurity is invited to attend this special tribute to one of cutting's legends, Smart Little Lena.

Monday night kickoff
The Tribute to Smart Little Lena isn't the only special activity Western Bloodstock has planned for this year's NCHA Futurity. Monday, December 9, will be the Western Bloodstock Preferred Breeders Sale Monday Night Kickoff. The festive gala and complimentary dinner in the John Justin Building in Fort Worth, Texas, will feature a preview of Preferred Breeders Sale yearlings, along with a parade of reference sires represented in this year's sale.

That event will be followed by a special Breeders Production Sale.

Million Dollar Stallion Alley
Each day from December 12 through December 15, cutting enthusiasts can enjoy a complimentary breakfast and take a stroll down Western Bloodstock's Million Dollar Stallion Alley in the John Justin Building in Fort Worth, Texas. The unique showcase will feature NCHA Super Stakes sires.

Bets CD wins Western Bloodstock Daily Chatter award
Bets CD, owned by Gary Rosenbach of Greenwich, Connecticut, won the Western Bloodstock Daily Chatter award at the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular. Ridden by Kobie Wood, the American Paint Horse Association stallion by CD Olena out of Bet Yer Blue Boons finished third in the NCHA Derby.

The Western Bloodstock Daily Chatter award goes to the highest money earner in the NCHA Derby that was sold through a Western Bloodstock sale. Western Bloodstock is the official sponsor of the popular Daily Chatter newsletter at major NCHA shows.

Cutting horse among finalists for award
Docacoo, a cutting horse owned by Skip and Sarah Gentry of West Salem, Ohio, is one of five finalists for the MD Barns Silver Spur Award. The five finalists will go online tomorrow, August 15, at www.aqha.com. American Quarter Horse Association members who have a PIN number are encouraged to log on and cast their vote for their favorite candidate. Voting will begin August 15 and conclude October 15. The winner and first and second runners-up will be announced, as decided by AQHA's membership, at the 2002 AQHA World Championship Show, November 22, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The MD Barns Silver Spur Award honors those American Quarter Horses who have made a significant impact in the lives of others or who have been cast into the public spotlight through prominent accomplishments to help create a favorable public perception of the breed. Those nominated must be a registered American Quarter Horse and must have enriched the life of a human being(s) through outstanding training, contribution or accomplishment.

Docacoo was featured one year ago in the E-Chatter and the Cutting Horse Chatter magazine.
