Summer Cutting Spectacular concludes in Fort Worth
Matt Gaines and Crystal Creek Ranch's Nu I Wood pulled out all stops to win the NCHA Derby with 225 points on July 29 as the Summer Cutting Spectacular concluded in Fort Worth, Texas.

Kevin Arnold, who won the Non-Pro title at the Super Stakes, repeated in the Non-Pro Derby with Riosmysister.

Chevy gives away ski trips
Havey Riddle of Ringling, Oklahoma won a 4-day, 3-night ski trip for two at the Deer Valley Resort of Park City, Utah courtesy of Chevy Trucks for posting the highest score of the Summer Cutting Spectacular. Havey marked a 229 to win the Senior Youth class on Glenn and Debbie Drake's Stylish And Foxie. Robert Rust and Ken Sitton's Rosies Lena also marked a 229 in the Sean Ryon East/West Shootout, but Havey won the draw for the trip. Mary Moore from Azle, Texas also won a drawing for a similar trip.

NCHA Charities raise funds through Dromeo Products
The NCHA Charirties Foundation/Cutters In Action has entered into a fundraising agreement with Dromeo, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas. Dromeo offers a variety of quality products for horses and humans such as Basic Mane & Tail Conditioner, Basic Hoof Penetrator, Hand & Body Lotion, Sunscreen and Analgesic Lotion. A portion of the proceeds from each sale is forwarded to NCHA Charities to assist in funding scholarships and for contributions to the NCHA Crisis Fund.

AQHYA
AQHYA members will "rise to the challenge" everyday during the AQHYA World Show,
August 5-6, in Fort Worth, Texas. The AQHYA World Show cutting events usually attract some of the top NCHA youth cutters in the country.

Zane Schulte Trainer of the Year Award Raffle
First prize in the Zane Schulte Trainer of the Year Award Raffle will be a fully equipped 2002 Chevy Trailblazer with leather interior. Tickets are just $100, with proceeds going to an endowment fund to perpetuate the award. The award will be given at the NCHA Futurity each year to a trainer who exemplifies the qualities by which Zane Schulte is remembered.

Second prize in the raffle is a specially commissioned Jan Mapes sculpture. Third prize is a $2,500 custom made Roo-Hide saddle. To order raffle tickets, call (979) 277-9344.

National High School Rodeo Finals
Quinn Collins, 2000 Chevy Trucks/NCHA Eastern National $10,000 Amateur Reserve Champion, and Nikki Sokol, outgoing NYCHA President, were among the finalists at the National High School Rodeo Finals
held July 19-29, in Springfield, Illinois.

Coming events
The northwest is gearing up for the Cascade Cow Cutters Futurity & Aged Event in Thorp, Washington where $2000-added money will be prorated between Open & Non-Pro competitors in the three-year-old event and $1000-added money prorated in each the four and five/six-year-old events. Dates are August 7-10. Secretary Becky Sleeman (253) 843-1760. Rounding out the week will be the Cascade Cow Cutters NW Show on August 11-12 with NCHA-approved classes and an additional North West Never Won A Buckle class.

Other LAEs include Canon City, Colorado's first Richwood Land & Cattle Cutting. The August 9-10 event adds $400 to its purse for both Open and Non-Pro each day. Secretary JC Stevens (719) 275-7595. That will be followed by three full days of NCHA classes August 11-13.

Adel, Iowa will be the hot spot for midwestern cutters August 11-12 for the Iowa Championship Cutting for four-year-olds. Secretary Sharon Kirchner (712) 542-2478.

August 4-5 at MCHA God's Country Cutting in the lush landscaping of Montfort, Wisconsin. Secretary Dava Scribner (651) 462-1803.

August 6-7 will find Kentucky State Fair-goers at the Quarter Horse Show Cutting in Louisville, Kentucky. $500-added to Open and Non-Pro. $400 added to $50,000 Am, $10,000 Nov, $3,000 Nov, and $10,000 Nov/NP. Secretary Carrie Schueler (502) 367-5300.

McArthur, California hosts their 10th Annual Cutting Show, August 10-12 with $500-added to Open, NP, $50,000 Am, $3,000 and $10,000 Nov and $10,000 Nov/NP classes. There's fishing and golfing close by. Extras from hosts George and Christine McArthur include Never Won A Buckle class; Bridleless Costumed class; Jack Russell Terrier races and a BBQ/dance. Top 15 Open and Non-Pro Update
Christys Acre, owned by Robert and Andrea Finger of Houston, Texas and ridden by Pat Earnheart of Hernando, Mississippi, remains in the lead for the John Deere/NCHA Open World Finals in February. Horse and rider have eaten up the miles on their way to 65 shows while earning $38,763.84, a mere $2,412.31 ahead of second-placed Ken Sitton's Rosies Lena ridden by Robert Rust.

Non-Pro leader, Mary Jo Milner may pass the $1,000,000 mark in NCHA lifetime earnings this year as she blazes her way to the John Deere/NCHA World Finals competition. The three-time Non-Pro World Champion has career earnings of $972,803, including $59,451.01 in Non-Pro earnings this year. Her closest competition in the World race is her husband, Jim Milner, with earnings of $34,665.29.
