Western Horseman Cup Qualifiers
The Summer Season of the Western Horseman Cup concluded with the Music City Futurity, and a new set of contestants have earned invitations to the prestigious event to be held at the 2007 Augusta Futurity.
Brazos Bash Wrap Up
Paul Hansma rode Skip and Elizabeth Queen's Dualins First Choice to a victory worth $20,000 in the Open Futurity at the Brazos Bash. The show wrapped up in Weatherford, Texxas, on Monday with Matt Miller of Millsap, Texas, winning the Non-Pro Futurity on Sheza Little Peppy. Other major winners included Gary Gonsalves on David and Stacie McDavid's DMAC Snoop Dog in the Open Derby, and Roger Wagner riding Marvine Ranch's Quintan Blue in the Open Classic/Challenge.
Gail Hooper of Decatur, Alabama, won the Non-Pro Derby, while Clay McCullar of Baird, Texas, won the Non-Pro Classic/Challenge.
Head for the Coast
With a purse estimated at about $900,000, the SouthCoast Futurity opens October 7 and runs through October 15 at the SouthCoast Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. SouthCoast entertainers during the run of the event will include John Michael Montgomery, plus Neal Sedaka and Dionne Warwick at the Orleans show room.
Sale Deadline Approaches
The deadline for consigning horses to the 2006 NCHA Futurity Sales is getting near. Entries need to be received by October 10. New Blog Emphasizes Cutting
Author, cutting horse historian and Daily Chatter editor Sally Harrison has launched a new blog with a heavy emphasis on the world of cutting horses. The blog, or "web log," for the uninitiated, is an online journal that features breaking news, profiles, historical pieces and observations from the most often quoted writer in the cutting horse business. Recent entries have covered everything from the Wine Country Futurity and the Brazos Bash to horses in Robert Frost's poetry.. Visit sallyharrison.com to read all about it.
Dual Rey Me Tops Standings
Jeremy and Candace Barwick's Dual Rey Me has stretched his lead to $4,000 in the NCHA Open standings. CD Lights, owned by Danny Motes and Winston Hansma, holds onto second. Meanwhile, former World Champion Joe Howard Williamson has squeaked in front of Don Boone in a see-saw race for the Non-Pro lead. Kathy Boone, Mary Jo Milner and Julie Wells are all within shouting distance of the front.
NCHA Cutting Academy
October 6 will be the date of the fourth NCHA Cutting Academy, to be held at the Tom Diaz Ranch, Woodland, California. Woodland is about 30 minutes from Sacramento and an hour and a half from San Francisco. The Gold Country CHA will have a club cutting on October 7-8 in Dixon, California, about half an hour from Woodland
Session I of the Cutting Academy includes segments on understanding rules, plus information on membership, amateur and non-pro status, equine nutrition and more. The cost, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is just $25 at the door. Session II features live work critiques with some of the industry’s leading experts. Cost for Session II is $135, with prepayment required.

AQHA Hall of Fame
Nominations are now being accepted for 2008 inductees to the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame. Nominators are encouraged to nominate an AQHA member (unless nominee deceased prior to 1940) who has had an impact on the American Quarter Horse industry as a promoter, breeder, competitor, trainer, or in other ways a contributor of his/her time and talents to the benefit of the American Quarter Horse or the Association. For horses, the nominee must have been outstanding as a sire, dam, competitor, or must have brought exceptional visibility to the American Quarter Horse.

NCHA's updated Secretary and Show Management Handbook is now available at no cost on the internet. It's the latest resource in the online toolkit for show secretaries.

Return to the Remuda Sale
