Preview NCHA's New Website
NCHA's website, www.nchacutting.com is getting a make-over with an updated look and enhanced navigation to help frequent visitors and newcomers alike find what they're looking for. The new site will be launched officially on September 1, but you can preview it now.

New Blog Emphasizes Cutting
Author, cutting horse historian and Daily Chatter editor Sally Harrison has launched a new blog with a heavy emphasis on the world of cutting horses. The blog, or "web log," for the uninitiated, will be frequently updated with news, features, historical pieces and observations from the most often quoted writer in the cutting horse business. A Spectacular Finish
Alice Walton's Rocking W Ranch and trainer Eddie Flynn wrapped up the NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular, presented by Great American Insurance, with a rare double by taking the Open Classic Challenge with Boon San Kitty and the Open Derby with Stylish Baby Doll. The Summer Spectacular concluded July 30 with the finals of the Open and Non-Pro Derby, and a special in-house commentary in Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum via Rancharrah Radio.  Here's a look at the winners from the $2.4 million show:

The NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular, presented by Great American Insurance, will be featured on the American Quarter Horse Association’s Best of the West series on The HorseTV Channel. The show will feature the Open finals on August 23 and the Non-Pro finals on August 30.

Summer Spectacular Sales
Oxbow Ranch's Bet On Houston brought the top price of $220,000 at the Western Bloodstock NCHA Summer Spectacular Sales. Niangua River Ranch bought the mare by Peptoboonsmal out of Bet Yer Blue Boons.

More Cutting on TV
With support from Purina, a cutting horse segment filmed at the 2005 NCHA Futurity will be featured on Best of America by Horseback on Wednesday, August 23. You can catch the show on RFD-TV at 5:30 pm (Eastern) and 11:30 pm. RFD-TV is available via DirecTV channel 379, Dish Network-9409 and some cable networks.

Western Horseman Cup Update
Sister CD, ridden by Paul Hansma for Skip and Elizabeth Queen, is holding his own on top of the Summer Season Open Standings for the Western Horseman Cup with 150 points, 50 more than NCHA Derby Champion Stylish Baby Doll.

In the Non-Pro competition, Dustin Adams is way out in front riding Reyann Hickory and SDP Hicapoos CD. His 225 points more than double his nearest rival, Julie Hansma.

West Texas Futurity Wrap Up
Results from the West Texas Futurity will soon be incorporated into the Western Horseman Cup standings. Lloyd Cox rode Linda Holmes' Halreycious to win the Open Derby and collect $11,500. Clay McCullar won the Non-Pro Derby on MH Dynos Tonette, while his father, Meredith, took the special AARP class.

Kathy Daughn showed Bill & Catherine Lacy's homebred Ariel Rey to a big win in the Open Futurity. Ariel Rey is a mare by Dual Rey out of Uno Mermaid, by Smart Little Uno. Matt Miller took the Non-Pro Futurity on Sheza Little Peppy, a Paint daughter of Little Peppys Ultimo.

More Awards for Guide to Cutting
The National Cutting Horse Association's popular Guide to Cutting swept the Triple Crown when it received a first place award in the Special Issue category in the Livestock Publications Council's annual contest. The information-packed Guide to Cutting had previously won first-place awards in American Horse Publications and AQHA Marketing and Media competitions.

An updated and improved version of the Guide to Cutting will be sent to all NCHA members this fall, and thousands of extra copies will be distributed to introduce new and potential members to the sport. Youth Seek Recipes for Success
Participate in the NYCHA Cookbook Fundraiser! NCI Building Systems Sponsors NCHA Futurity

NCHA Cutting Academy
The NCHA Cutting Academy Clinics have received rave reviews from cutters. The next NCHA Cutting Academy, will be held August 24 right before the Crawfish Classic in West Monroe, Louisiana. Four clinics will be scheduled annually in different locations, with the emphasis on the education and presentation of showing horses.

October 6 will be the date of the fourth NCHA Cutting Academy, to be held at the Tom Diaz Ranch, Woodland, California. Woodland is about 30 minutes from Sacramento and an hour and a half from San Francisco. The Gold Country CHA will have a club cutting on October 7-8 in Dixon, California, about half an hour from Woodland

Session I of the Cutting Academy includes segments on understanding rules, plus information on membership, amateur and non-pro status, equine nutrition and more. The cost, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is just $25 at the door. Session II features live work critiques with some of the industry’s leading experts. Cost for Session II is $135, with prepayment required.

NCHA's updated Secretary and Show Management Handbook is now available at no cost on the internet. It's the latest resource in the online toolkit for show secretaries.

EE Ranches Breeders Production Sale
The third annual EE Ranches Breeders Production Sale will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006, at EE Ranches’ state-of-the-art stallion station in Whitesboro, Texas. The sale includes broodmares, yearlings, seasoned cutting horses, 2-year-olds in training and 3-year-old futurity prospects representing EE’s stallion battery.

Owned by Bill and Jo Ellard, EE Ranches Stallion Station is the home of four of the Ellard’s stallions, including Cat Ichi, Laker Doc, DJ Tracker and Kodo, all with earnings of $100,000 or more and descended from the Ellard’s great producer Laney Doc. The EE stallion roster for 2007 includes leading sire Dual Rey, 2004 NCHA Open Futurity champion Spots Hot, High Brow Cougar and Smart Little Levi.

The Race Is On In 2006
CD Lights, owned by Danny Motes and Winston Hansma, has extended his lead to a tad over $6,000 in front of his nearest rival, Falcon Seaboard Ranches' Playboy Boonsmal in the Open standings for the 2006 point year. Likewise, Don Boone has pulled nearly $3,000 ahead in the Non-Pro standings, over Joe Howard Williamson and Mary Jo Milner, who have notched up nine Non-Pro World Championships between them..

But it's a long year, so keep up with the standings in all NCHA-approved classes online every week.
