A Super Finish
Highbrow Supercat, by High Brow Cat, ridden by Tommy Marvin for Paul Dean of Claremore, Oklahoma, marked 226.5 points to win the NCHA Futurity on December 11. Earlier in the week, Sandy Bonelli became the first back-to-back winner of the Futurity since Buster Welch in the early 1960s when she won the Non-Pro title with Blue Leboon, by Peptoboonsmal.Bonelli won last year's event on Midnight Rondeevous. Jim Langsdale of Quitman, Georgia, graduated from the restricted ranks by winning the Amateur Futurity on Red Money Merada, by Acres Of Red.

Catch the NCHA Futurity on TV
The 2005 NCHA Futurity was broadcast live on RFD-TV, presented by EE Ranches of Texas, whose showcase breeding facility in Whitesboro, Texas, is the home of such great stallions as 2004 NCHA Futurity Champion Spots Hot, 2004 NCHA Derby Champion Cat Ichi, prominent sire Dual Rey, and others.

The show featuring the expert commentary of Hall of Fame trainer Tim Smith and Shelly Mowery, will be re-broadcast on January 20, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. EST and 11:00 EST, and on February 17 at 3:00 p.m. EST and 11 p.m. EST.

“The NCHA Futurity is one event that cutting horse fans everywhere do not want to miss,” said NCHA Executive Director Jeff Hooper. “We’re delighted to be able to present it on RFD-TV, which is truly rural America’s most important network.”

Futurity Sales Set Records
Raggedy Old Dually brought a world record price for a 3-year-old in training when she sold for $340,000 at the Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sales. Raggedy Old Dually is a Dual Pep mare consigned by Dogwood Farm and Star Hill Farm and purchased by Waco Bend Ranch. World Finals Just around the Corner
Bobs Hickory Rio, ridden by Boyd Rice for the James Kenney Horse Trust, heads to the World Finals with a lead of nearly $22,000 in the Open division of the World Standings, over Allen Crouch on Lee Garner's Show Biz Pep.

Meanwhile in the NCHA Non-Pro rankings, six-time World Champion Mary Jo Milner finished the regular season with a lead over her husband, Jim Milner, of about $7,000.

The draw for the 2005 NCHA World Finals will be held on July 16. The World Finals will be held in Amarillo, Texas, February 9-20. Cutting horse fans at the Tri-State Fairgrounds will be able to tune in to a special in-house commentary during the Open and Non-Pro finals on Saturday, February 18, thanks to the Smart Bug technology of Rancharrah Radio.

Abilene Ushers in New Season
The 2006 limited age event season got underway with the opening of the $180,000-added Abilene Spectacular on January 2. Skip and Elizabeth Queen's CD Olena gelding, Sister CD, won the 4-year-old Open, with Paul Hansma riding.

Jim Vangilder's Pet Squirrel, ridden by Roger Wagner, marked 221 to win the Matt Gully Memorial.

Jeffrey Matthews' One Time Pepto, won the 5/6-year-old Open with Matt Gaines riding.

The show continues through Friday.

NYCHA Stallion Program Fast Approaching
Members of the National Youth Cutting Horse Association are gearing up for the 2006 NYCHA Stallion Service Program. Stallion owners may donate one breeding per year per stallion to the program. Those breedings are then sold in a sealed bid auction. All proceeds benefit the NYCHA to support scholarships, awards, and educational activities. We hope you will consider donating a breeding to your great stallion for the coming year. If you would like to participate in the program, please fill out the 2006 donation form and return it to the NCHA office with a copy of the stallion's papers. If your stallion will be standing at a breeding facility, please be sure you notify them of your donation.

As soon as we receive the signed contract we will post your stallion’s information and photo on the NCHA website and publish a list of donated breedings in the Chatter magazine. Sealed bids on available breedings will be due to the NCHA office by 12 noon on February 1, 2006.

Final entries are now in for the Western Horseman Cup point year, the following Open horses are heading to the Western Horseman Cup finals, to be held in conjunction with the Augusta Futurity on Friday, January 27:

Olan Hightower Benefit Cutting
The Waller Cutting Horse Association will host a benefit cutting at Nueces Canyon on January 27-29 to help defray medical expenses for well known cutter Olan Hightower, who underwent a quadruple bypass following a recent heart attack. Judge Recertification Seminars
There will be a series of Judge Recertification Seminars in 2006 held in conjunction with three major shows starting with the Eastern National Championship in March. It is mandatory that all NCHA carded judges attend at least one of these recertification seminars in 2006.
