ESSAY CONTEST
This contest is open to all NYCHA members; you do not have to attend the Summer Cutting Spectacular or the Youth Convention to participate in the contest. Great prizes will be awarded and the best overall entry will receive a $500 scholarship from NYCHA. You can even earn LEAP points by submitting an entry!
Age Divisions – All divisions can get help with typing, but must write and edit the essay themselves.
- 8 & under
- 9-12
- 13-15
- 16 & up
Guidelines
- Essays should be 1,000 words or less.
- Essays will be judged on spelling, punctuation, and content.
- Essays must be typed.
- Each essay should have a cover sheet stating the contestant's name, address, phone number and member number; the title of their essay; and the age division in which they will be competing.
- All entries are the property of NYCHA and will not be returned. Winning essays may be used for promotional purposes.
Topic for all age groups:
Character
Counts with Horses Too. Pick any one of
the six pillars of character from Character Counts (trusworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship) and tell us how that relates to
your involvement with horses and cutting. Visit
